FULLERTON, CA - After heavy rains and lightning forced a lengthy delay Sunday afternoon, the Cal State Fullerton softball contest against Oregon State has been halted and will continue at a date to be determined.
The game was stopped in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Beavers holding a 4-2 lead. The Titans had a runner on second base with two outs before lightning and heavy rain caused the tarp to be pulled. The sun eventually returned, but the damage to the field had already been done.
Oregon State had taken an early lead on Audrey Roderfeld's two-run home run in the first, but Fullerton answered with two of its own in the bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with one out and scoring on Kadie Baldwin's two-run single through the right-side to tie the game.
The Beavers regained the lead in the fourth as a walk and an error put two on for Nikki Chandler, who sacrificed both into scoring position. That brought up Lea Cavestany, who lined a sharp single into centerfield, scoring both Dani Chisholm and Tarah Black for the 4-2 lead.
Cal State Fullerton's next scheduled game will be on Tuesday (March 9) at 6 p.m. as the Titans host North Carolina at Anderson Family Field.
