FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior outfielder Jenna Wheeler was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after a big weekend at the plate helped the Titans to a 3-1 record to start the season.
It is the first weekly honor from the conference for Wheeler in her career.
In four games last weekend, Wheeler hit a team-high .583 (7-for-12), with multiple hits in each of the team's last three games. She also slugged .667 on the weekend, scoring four times and driving in three runs.
Wheeler had her best game offensively against No. 5 Oklahoma, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and driving home two runs during a big 10-run second inning to help the Titans to the upset of Sooners.
She also finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored on Sunday against Santa Clara in the Titans' 7-0 shutout of the Broncos.
Wheeler and Cal State Fullerton return to action this weekend as one of four teams at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational in Austin beginning Friday afternoon (Feb. 15).
