May 16, 2009
Tempe, Ariz. - Trina Harrison hit a pair of home runs and Lauren Lupinetti, Torrie Anderson and pinch-hitter Morgan LeMond each hit one as Cal State Fullerton won an elimination game, 8-2, over San Diego State Saturday in the NCAA Softball Regional Tournament at Arizona State. The Titans (30-20) will play host Arizona State (41-17) tonight at 8:04 p.m. in another elimination game. The winner advances to Sunday's finals against LSU (34-16-1), which beat No. 10 national seed ASU earlier Saturday, 10-2. Ari Cervantes (20-11) pitched a complete game for the Titans, allowing only a pair of unearned runs and 6 hits. Lupinetti hit her sixth homer of the year and second of the regional in the first inning following a Courtney Martinez single. Harrison hit her fifth of the year and second of the regional in the third after Lupinetti had been walked by loser Samantha Beasley. Anderson hit her 11th roundtripper to lead off the bottom of the fifth against reliever Bailey Micetich. Harrison hit a solo shot in the sixth and LeMond hit No. 4 following a Kadie Baldwin single. The Aztecs runs came in the top of the fifth. They loaded the bases on two infield singles and a bunt single. Third baseman Francesca Gonzales made a throwing error that allowed two runners to score. The third out of the inning came when right fielder Baldwin threw out a Brittany Knudsen at the plate. The Titans had gone 0-2 vs. the Aztecs during the regular season. |
