Titans Shut Out by Illinois, 5-0

FULLERTON, CA - Illinois' Jackie Guy struck out nine as part of a three-hit shutout and Meredith Hackett added a two-run home run to start the scoring, helping lift the Fighting Illini to a 5-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton on day three of the Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field.
The loss dropped the Titans to 8-13 overall and 1-2 in tournament play while Illinois evened its mark at 10-10 and 1-1 in tournament play.
Guy (5-4) allowed a pair of singles and a double while walking only two in the complete-game victory while the Fighting Illini offense rapped out 12 hits against three Fullerton hurlers - 11 of them singles.
Senior Ari Cervantes (7-7) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in just three innings of work.
Hackett's fifth home run of the year drove home Danielle Zymkowitz ahead of her in the first for the quick lead and Illinois made it 3-0 in the third on an RBI single by Jessica Davis. The Fighting Illini capped the scoring with a two-run sixth on an error and another Davis RBI single.
Freshman Lauren Mario finished with two of the Titans' three hits on the night, slugging a double in the third for the team's first hit of the night and a single in the sixth off the third base bag. Senior K.C. Craddick had the only other hit for Fullerton with a single in the fourth to lead-off the inning.
The Titans continue tournament play on Saturday afternoon (March 19) at 1 p.m. as they take on No. 12 Texas. The contest will be preceded by a ceremony honoring the 25th anniversary of Cal State Fullerton's 1986 NCAA National Championship as players and coaches of that squad will be in attendance.
