FULLERTON, CA - Freshman Samantha Dollarhide's bases-loaded single with one out in the seventh scored pinch runner Adriana Martinez with the game-winning run to help lift Cal State Fullerton to a 4-3 victory over No. 9 Oklahoma on Saturday night to conclude day four at the 2009 Judi Garman Classic at Anderson Family Field.
The Titans (11-13) defeated a nationally ranked team for the first time this season and improved to 5-2 in one-run ballgames. The Sooners fell to 22-8 overall with the loss.
Freshman Morgan LeMond led off the seventh with an infield single and a sacrifice by junior Francesca Gonzales moved Martinez into scoring position. That brought up K.C. Craddick, whose ground ball to short was thrown away trying to get Martinez running to third and moving Craddick up 60 feet.
After an intentional walk to Lauren Lupinetti, the third of the night issued by Oklahoma starter Kirsten Allen (6-5), to load the bases, Dollarhide stepped in and looped a 2-2 pitch into short left field for her second hit of the night and her first game-winning RBI of the season.
Sophomore Ari Cervantes (7-7) earned the victory in the circle for the Titans, allowing three runs on five hits, walking three and striking out three in the complete-game effort. Allen allowed four runs (two earned thanks to three Sooners errors) on eight hits, walking six and striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings of work.
Oklahoma got on the board right away to start the game getting an infield single from Evan Sallis and a hit batter to put two on. Amber Flores stole second to put a pair in scoring position for Samantha Ricketts, who lined a double into right centerfield, scoring both runners for the 2-0 lead.
The Sooners made it 3-0 in the third on an RBI single by Chana'e Jones, but that would be all the offense Oklahoma could muster for the rest of the night as Fullerton mounted its comeback.
Junior Sheila Holguin drew a two-out walk after a pair of strikeouts to start the third and bring up LeMond, who sent a 3-1 pitch from Allen over the wall in left centerfield for her third home run of the year to make it a one-run game.
The Titans rallied to tie it in the fifth as an error and a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs for Craddick, who worked the count full before taking ball four to drive home pinch-runner Whitney Kroh with the tying run.
Allen worked out of any further damage, inducing an inning-ending ground ball back to the circle to end the threat and set up the dramatic seventh inning.
LeMond finished 3-for-4 to pace the Titans' offense while Gonzales was a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk at the plate to join Dollarhide with multiple hits on the night.
Flores finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Sooners.
Cal State Fullerton, now 3-1 in the tournament, closed out play on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as the Titans take on No. 2 Washington at Anderson Family Field. Oklahoma, which fell to 3-2 in tournament play with the loss, closes out play against Bowling Green at 11 a.m.
