Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Senior K.C. Craddick's one-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh drove home freshman Lauren Mario with the game-winning run Sunday afternoon as Cal State Fullerton defeated Oregon State, 3-2, to close out the 2011 DeMarini Invitational at Anderson Family Field.

The win put the Titans at 3-1 for the tournament as they have won four of their last five in improving to 6-8 overall. The Beavers, who rallied back from a 2-0 deficit in the game, fell to 7-7 overall with the loss.

With the score tied, Mario led-off the seventh with her fourth walk of the tournament and moved up 60 feet on Ashley Carter's sacrifice bunt to put her in scoring position. After falling behind in the count 0-2, a wild pitch during Craddick's at bat then put Mario at third before the senior looped the next offering from Tina Andreana (1-2) just fair down the line in left, allowing Mario to scoot home with the winning run.

Craddick had given the Titans the lead in the first inning off starter Paige Hall, who left after facing only three batters, as Mario led-off with a single and advanced to third following a passed ball and an infield hit by Carter. Craddick then slammed the first pitch she saw from Hall to the gap in left centerfield, scoring both runners to give Fullerton a 2-0 advantage.

Oregon State battled back and scratched out single runs in the third and fifth off the bat of Desiree Beltran to tie the game. Her first home run of the season in the third cut the Beavers' deficit in half and she added an RBI single in the fifth, plating Ally Kutz, who had reached on a two-out double one batter earlier.

Other that than, OSU's bats were held quiet by senior Ari Cervantes (5-4), who scattered just four hits and struck out three in her third complete-game of the tournament. The five wins this season for Cervantes are just one shy of her entire total from 2010 when she finished 6-19 in 35 appearances as a junior.

Ariel Tsuchiyama, Sammie Dabbs, and Adriana Martinez also finished with hits for the Titans, who hit just .256 on the weekend, but held opponents to a .172 average for the tournament.

Cal State Fullerton returns to the field for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday (March 8) beginning at 4 p.m. as the Titans host Troy University at Anderson Family Field. Fullerton then welcomes Utah State in for a single game on Friday (March 11) at 6 p.m. as part of the Long Beach Marriott Invitational before meeting UCLA and BYU on Saturday (March 12) in Lakewood to close out tournament play.
