FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior goalkeeper Karen Bardsley was named to the All-West Region First Team while Erica Janke earned third-team honors as Soccer Buzz released it's all-region squads on Tuesday.
Bardsley, who was named the Big West Conference Goalkeeper of the Year for the third time in 2006 and was earlier named to the NSCAA All-West Region squad for the second time in her career, earned her third all-region honor from Soccer Buzz and her first appearance on the first team.
She finished the 2006 season 12-8-2 overall in net with eight shutouts and a 1.02 goals against average. Bardsley ended her career the holder of every major goalkeeping mark in school history, amassing 47 career victories, a 0.84 goals against average, 312 saves, 26 shutouts, and 6,395 minutes played.
Bardsley also holds the top four marks for single-season goals against average, and is also the single-season record holder for victories (16 in 2005), shutouts (10 in 2005), and minutes played (2,031 in 2006).
Janke, who was also an NSCAA all-region honoree this season, earned her first career honor from Soccer Buzz. The 2006 Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and two-time All-Big West First-Team member finished with three goals and an assist on the year.
Head Coach Ali Khosroshahin was also mentioned as one of two runners-up for the region's coach of the year honor for the third time (2001 and 2005).
He helped lead Cal State Fullerton, which lost seven starters and six of its top seven scorers from the previous year, to a 12-8-2 overall record and a 4-2-1 mark in the Big West in 2006.
The Titans clinched their second consecutive Big West Tournament Championship while advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season before falling in the second round to eventual national semifinalist UCLA.
