National Teams of the Week List Janke Among Honorees

Oct. 11, 2006

FULLERTON, CA - Two days after being named the Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week, Cal State Fullerton senior defender Erica Janke was named to both the Soccer Buzz and Soccer America National Teams of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.

Janke, who earned Big West weekly honors for the first time in her career, also made her debut on both National Team of the Week lists and became the first Titans defender since Marlene Sandoval in September of last season to earn such accolades.

She joins teammates Karen Bardsley and Lauryn Welch as Fullerton National Team of the Week honorees this season. Bardsley was named to both the Soccer Buzz and Soccer America teams on Sept. 6 while Welch earned honors from Soccer America on Sept. 20.

One of four returning starters on this year's Fullerton squad, Janke was one of the Titans' top offensive threats this past weekend, scoring a goal in each of Fullerton's victories over Pacific (2-1) and Cal State Northridge (1-0).

The goal in the seventh minute against the Tigers was the first of her career and followed that up two days later with the lone tally in a shutout of the Matadors - handing Cal State Northridge its first home loss of the season.

Janke and the Titans return to action this weekend as they play host to UC Santa Barbara on Friday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. and Cal Poly on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m.
