Janke Scores First Big West Conference Player of the Week Honor
Oct. 9, 2006
FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior defender Erica Janke was named the Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after helping her side remain unbeaten in league action this past weekend.
Janke (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS), who shared this week's honor with Long Beach State goalkeeper Liz Ramos, earned her first career conference weekly honor and became the third different Titan to earn such accolades this season joining teammates Karen Bardsley (Sept. 5) and Lauryn Welch (Sept. 18).
One of Fullerton's top defenders, Janke was one of the Titans' top offensive threats this weekend in road victories over Pacific (2-1) and Cal State Northridge (1-0).
She scored her first career goal in the seventh minute of play against the Tigers to set up a victory two days before scoring the lone goal of the contest, and her first career game-winning goal, in the shutout of the Matadors.
In the process, Janke became the sixth player to score their first career goal in a Titan uniform this season and the ninth player overall to find the back of the net for Cal State Fullerton in 2006.
Janke and the Titans return to action this weekend as they play host to UC Santa Barbara on Friday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m. and Cal Poly on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1 p.m.
