FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton freshman midfielder Christina Murillo was named the Big West Conference women's soccer player of the week on Monday afternoon after helping the Titans to a pair of non-conference victories last weekend.
It is the first career weekly honor from the conference office for Murillo, who joined teammate Jenae Gibbens as Titan players honored this season.
Murillo provided a scoring spark off the bench for Fullerton, scoring a pair of timely goals against San Jose State and Fresno State.
Her first career goal couldn't have come at a better time for the Titans as she netted the game-winner with just under two minutes remaining in the second overtime period to lift her side to the 1-0 victory against the Spartans.
Two days later, her second goal of the season tied the match in the first half against Fresno State - the first of three unanswered scores in Fullerton's 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
Murillo ranks tied for third on the team in goals and tied for fourth in points entering this weekend's Big West matches at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly and is one of 10 players to have either scored a goal to tallied an assist in 2007.
The Titans and Gauchos will meet on Friday night (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m. before Fullerton travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to take on the Mustangs on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 1 p.m.
