Women's Soccer Participates in Race for the Cure
Sept. 29, 2008
FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton women's soccer student-athletes Tiffany Craig, Christina Murillo, Geminesse Martinez, and Tamara Dewey were among the more than 26,000 people who participated in the 17th annual Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure in Newport Beach on Sunday (Sept. 29). The 2008 Race is on track to raise more than $3 million (with preliminary totals at $2.8 million - $100,000 more than this time last year), bringing the Komen Orange County Affiliate total to $21 million raised since the Orange County Race's inception in 1992. Fundraising for the Race will continue through Oct. 17. Seventy-five percent of the funds raised are invested in local breast cancer awareness and education programs, breast self-examination classes, medical and diagnostic services for uninsured and underinsured women, and other unmet community needs through grants to community breast health organizations. The remaining 25 percent is dedicated to the Komen Award and Research Grant Program to fund breast cancer research. |
