FULLERTON, CA - With one weekly honor already on her mantelpiece, Cal State Fullerton junior midfielder Casey Volk added another on Tuesday as she was one of 11 players named to CollegeSoccer360.com's "Primetime Performers" list.
Volk, who was named the Big West Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored her first goal of the year and added an assist last weekend to help the Titans to a 2-0 shutout of then-No. 18 UNC Greensboro, earning all-tournament honors from the coaches in the process.
She joins players from Auburn, Oklahoma State, BYU, Yale, Wake Forest, DePaul, Arizona State, Connecticut, Minnesota, and Notre Dame on this week's list. It is the second time a player from Cal State Fullerton has been honored since the weekly list began in 2009, joining teammate Stacey Fox, who was honored on Sept. 29, 2009, after scoring the tying goal with eight seconds remaining in a 1-1 draw with Washington.
Selection for the CS360 weekly awards is based on any/all of the following "primetime" criteria (i.e. not solely based on raw stats):
&\#149; Must have been playing in a game involving a top-50 team from the CS360 Composite National Rankings (or a preseason conference favorite), or performed at a high level in a game that is key to the team's postseason qualification.
&\#149; Involved in clutch performances, such as game-winning goals, noteworthy comebacks, late scores, team leadership, etc.
&\#149; Overcame adversity or extreme circumstances (for the team and/or individual).
&\#149; Bonus consideration is given for key performances away from team's home field.
&\#149; In general, preference is given based on the quality of the opponent and situational factors involved in the player's accomplishments.
