FULLERTON, CA - Former Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Karen Bardsley and the England Women's National Team are on to the quarterfinals of the 2009 UEFA European Championships in Finland.
England's 1-1 draw with group winner Sweden gave The Three Lions enough points to advance as one of the top third-place teams in the tournament. England will open the knock-out stage against host Finland on Thursday (Sept. 3) at Turku Stadium in the first match of the quarterfinal round.
The winner will meet either the Netherlands or France in the first semifinal on Sunday (Sept. 6) with the championship match to be held on Sept. 10 in Helsinki.
Bardsley is looking to be a part of her second championship this summer after spending the year as a member of Women's Professional Soccer's Sky Blue FC, which claimed the league's inaugural championship with a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Sol on Aug. 22 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
