FULLERTON, CA -- - The Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team will begin the 2005 campaign ranked No. 15 in the West Region according to a poll released by Soccer Buzz this week.
The Titans, who finished last season as co-champions of the Big West Conference with an 11-8-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in league play, were one of three Big West teams listed in the preseason poll as Cal Poly (11-2-6 in 2004) and Long Beach State (6-9-3 in 2004) also received votes.
Fullerton will meet three other teams ranked in the West Region top 15 this upcoming season, going head-to-head with Santa Clara (No. 3) on Sept. 11 in Santa Clara, Calif., Utah (No. 7) on Sept. 18 in Tucson, Ariz., and Loyola Marymount (No. 13) in Los Angeles, Calif., on Sept. 25.
In addition, the Titans will also meet a trio of teams ranked in the top 30 nationally by Soccer Buzz in the Broncos (No. 8), the Utes (No. 26), and Auburn (No. 24) on Sept. 2 in Auburn, Ala.
Under the guidance of fifth-year Head Coach Ali Khosroshahin, Cal State Fullerton returns 10 starters and 17 letterwinners for the 2005 season which opens on Aug. 26 against San Diego State at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
