FULLERTON, CA - Former Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has been named to the final 22-woman roster for England's Women's National Team that will compete at the 2009 UEFA European Championships in Finland later this month.
Bardsley and the The Three Lions will face Italy, Russia, and Sweden as part of Group C, opening the tournament against the Italians on Aug. 25 at Lahti Stadium. England and Russia will tangle three days later on Aug. 28 at Helsinki Football Stadium with a match-up against Sweden slated for Aug. 31 at Turku Stadium.
"We have been monitoring Karen [Bardsley] for a long time now, the reports from her club have been very good," England Head Coach Hope Powell told TheFA.com. "She is a full-time player in America now and has developed physically and the presence she offers is enormous."

Currently an assistant coach at West Coast Conference power San Diego, Bardsley has spent the past year competing with Sky Blue FC in Women's Professional Soccer, helping her side to a third-place tie and in the thick of the race for a playoff spot.
Bardsley has appeared in four matches for Sky Blue FC this season (three starts) as a backup to starter Jenni Branam and has posted a 1-1-2 record in net to go with eight saves and a 0.57 goals against average in 314 minutes. She logged her first career WPS shutout on Aug. 5 against FC Gold Pride, making two saves in a 2-0 victory.
