Munoz, Sandoval Help Mexico to Fourth-Place Finish at Pan Am Games

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior Leslie Munoz and former All-American defender Marlene Sandoval helped the Mexican Women's National Soccer Team to a fourth-place finish at the XV Pan American Games which concluded on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Mexico finished in a three-way tie atop group B along with the United States and Argentina with identical 3-1 records. Mexico posted wins over Paraguay (5-0), Panama (2-0) and the USA (3-2) with a close defeat against the Argentinians (1-0) in group play.

In the semifinal round, Mexico fell to eventual gold medalist Brazil by a 2-0 count before Canada handed Mexico a 2-1 loss in the bronze medal game.

Munoz appeared in all six matches for Mexico, starting the team's final four matches at the games. Sandoval made five appearances, including a start against Panama, but missed the team's third-place match against Canada after being red-carded in the closing moments of Mexico's semifinal loss to Brazil.
