STOCKTON, CA - Pacific's Kim Hargrave had a goal and an assist and the host Tigers scored three times in the second half on Sunday afternoon, lifting them to a 3-0 victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton in a Big West Conference women's soccer match-up at Stagg Stadium.
The Titans, who opened league play with a 3-2 win over UC Davis on Friday, fell to 4-9 overall and evened their conference mark at 1-1. Pacific improved to 4-6-3 overall and earned its first conference with of the season, moving to 1-2 overall.
After an even first half, the Tigers were virtually unstoppable in the second period, outshooting the Titans by a 13-1 count and holding a 5-0 advantage in corners in the half.
Hargrave got Pacific on the board in the 53rd minute with her second goal of the season, heading a pass from teammate Brittni Beeman over the Fullerton keeper for the 1-0 lead. Hargrave then assisted on the Tigers second goal of the match in the 72nd minute as Kristina Wavomba netted her first score of the year from 12 yards out to make it 2-0.
Sammi Teramae then capped the scoring in the 83rd minute with a shot from eight yards out off passes from Maricela Padilla and Angelica Figueroa for her first goal of the year.
Senior Christina Murillo had two of the Titans' four shots on the afternoon with freshman Nikki McCants and sophomore Brisa Gonzalez accounting for the other two. The four shots on the day were the fewest for Fullerton since taking the same amount in a loss at Nebraska on Sept. 17 while the 16 shots allowed were tied for the second-most for an opponent this season.
Figueroa had three shots to lead all players for the Tigers, who had 10 different players take shots on the afternoon.
After playing eight of their last nine on the road, the Titans now settle in at home for their next four matches, playing within the friendly confines of Titan Stadium for the next two weekends. Fullerton opens the homestand on Thursday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m. against UC Riverside before welcoming Long Beach State on Sunday (Oct. 17) at 6 p.m.
