No. 5 Santa Clara Posts 2-0 Shutout of No. 14 Cal State Fullerton
Sept. 24, 2006 FULLERTON, CA - Santa Clara's Marian Dalmy scored twice for her first goals of the season while the No. 5 Broncos defense held Cal State Fullerton to just five shots on the afternoon en route to a 2-0 shutout of the No. 14 Titans on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The loss extends Fullerton's losing streak to three straight matches as the Titans fall to 4-4-1 overall. Santa Clara, coming off a shutout of No. 3 UCLA on Friday, improved to 8-2 overall on the year. Dalmy netted the game-winner in the 23rd minute off a pass from Kiki Bosio, scoring from five yards out for the 1-0 lead. She would add her second goal of the match in the 61st minute on a penalty kick for the final 2-0 score. Five different Titans accounted for the team's shots with Nicole Scheid and Lauryn Welch tallying shots on goal. Broncos' goalkeepers Meagan McCray and Julie Ryder each made a save in combining on the shutout. Cal State Fullerton's Karen Bardsley made nine saves on the afternoon. The Titans return to action on Thursday evening (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. as Fullerton takes on Arizona at Titan Stadium in its first home match in more than a month. |
