FULLERTON, CA - Coming off its first loss of the 2006 season, the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team got three second half goals from three different players as the visiting Titans shutout host San Diego State, 3-0, on Tuesday night at the SDSU Sports Deck in San Diego, Calif.
The victory snaps Fullerton's two-match winless streak as the Titans improved to 3-1-1 overall. The Aztecs, playing their third match in five days, fell to 3-4 overall.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes during which Cal State Fullerton was outshot 9-6, the Titans opened the floodgates in the second half.
They got on the board first in the 58th minute as newcomer Kristen Boujos one-touched a cross from teammate Lauren Cram past SDSU goalkeeper Cat Burson for the 1-0 advantage. It was the first goal of Boujos' Titans career and the first point for Cram on the season.
Just over eight minutes later, junior Stacey Thompson netted her second goal of the year as freshman Danica Ramirez's shot was deflected by Burson off the crossbar right to Thompson, who calmly tapped it in for the 2-0 lead in the 67th minute.
Freshman Courtney Heinen put the final nail in the coffin in the 70th minute as she took a through ball from junior Nicole Scheid and beat Burson to the left side from 13 yards out for her first career goal and the final 3-0 score.
San Diego State outshot Cal State Fullerton, 18-16, but only three of those shots were on net compared to the Titans' seven.
Fullerton senior goalkeeper Karen Bardsley logged her third clean sheet of the season while making three second-half saves. Burson made four saves in the loss.
Boujos led the Titans with three shot attempts on the night.
The Titans return to action this weekend as they make their longest road-trip of the season to the Lone Star State to take on Texas A&M and Texas.
