FULLERTON, CA - Sophomore Nikki McCants scored twice while also tallying an assist and teammates Erica Mazeau and Ann Marie Tangorra each added a goal and two assists Saturday afternoon as the Orange team defeated its counterparts in blue, 7-2, during the program's annual Blue-Orange Scrimmage at Titan Stadium.

"I was encouraged at the level of competition on both sides this afternoon," fifth-year head coach Demian Brown said. "It was a good thing to see as we get ready to start the season."

Caitlin Mellano, Brisa Gonzalez, and Jennifer Smith also tuned up for the regular season by finding the back of the net for the victorious Orange team while sophomore Kishi Smith and newcomer Colleen Ortega scored for the Blue Team. Kishi Smith led all players with six shots on the night while McCants and Tangorra led the Orange team with three shots apiece, pacing their side to a 13-9 advantage in the shots column.

McCants scored twice during a seven-minute span in the first half - both off passes from Tangorra, who added a goal inbetween McCants' strikes. Mazeau got the scoring started for the Orange side in the 16th minute, bending a corner kick in for the first goal of the night.

Kishi Smith got the Blue Team on the board in the 33rd minute of an abbreviated 40-minute first period off a nice give from freshman Brianna Chapman, but Orange responded with the first three goals of the second half as Mellano and Gonzalez scored two minutes apart and Jennifer Smith added a strike in the 56th minute.

Ortega closed out the scoring in the 69th minute for the Blue side off a pass from Kishi Smith.

Cal State Fullerton officially opens the regular season on Friday night (Aug. 19) at 7 p.m. as the Titans host Utah to kick-off a three-match homestand at Titan Stadium.
