Marlene Sandoval

Player Profile

Position:
Team Manager

Former Cal State Fullerton All-America defender and Big West Conference Defender of the Year Marlene Sandoval returns to Titan Stadium as the Team Manager for the 2008 season while she completes her degree in kinesiology.

Sandoval, who lettered for the Titans from 2002-05, was a four-time All-Big West honoree, including first-team laurels in 2004-05. She has also spent significant time with the Mexican Women's National Team, representing that country in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She started all three matches and helped Mexico to an appearance in the quarterfinal round.

Her international experience also includes scoring a goal for Mexico in a Women's World Cup qualifier against Japan in 2003 and later winning a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic that same year. She also scored a goal with Mexico in a 5-1 win over Panama at the 2002 Gold Cup and competed for Mexico's U-19 squad at the Youth World Cup in Canada in the summer of 2002.

The centerpiece of Fullerton defensive units that set numerous school records during her junior and senior years, Sandoval had her best season offensively in 2005, scoring four goals and assisting on three others as the Titans advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. She finished her Cal State Fullerton career with eight goals and seven assists for 23 points.

Born January 18, 1984, Sandoval was a three-year varsity letter winner at nearby Valencia HS in Placentia where she was a two-time first-team all-league selection, a two-time league MVP, and a two-time All-CIF selection.

Her mother is Margarita and she has two younger brothers, Jesse and Christian, and a younger sister, Adele. Sandoval played club soccer for the CRSC Infinity.
