SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer surrendered a goal in the final seconds of the match to lose 2-1 at UC Santa Barbara on Friday night.
With just seconds left on the clock, the Titans fouled the Gauchos from roughly 25 yards away from goal and straightaway. Shaelan Murison shot the ball and it took a tough hop right before it reached goalkeeper Tianna Sanders to skip past her and win the game for the Gauchos.
Madeline Gibson put UCSB in front in the 44th minute to give the Gauchos the lead before the break. Off a throw-in, the ball was bouncing in the box and being deflected until it bounced to Gibson who struck it out of the air to beat the Titan defense and Sanders.
In the 75th minute, Sarah Davidson scored her first-career goal as a Titan to tie the match at one. Taylor Salgado headed a ball that UCSB goalkeeper parried and Davidson was in the right place at the right time to blast it home.
UCSB had 16 shots to seven for Fullerton. Five Gaucho shots were on target while just four were for the Titans. UCSB won seven corners to just two for Fullerton.
Fullerton returns to Titan Stadium on Sunday for the penultimate home match of the season. The Titans host Cal Poly at 2 p.m. PT with a live ESPN3 broadcast.
