NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer opened up the scoring in the 11th minute but could not sustain the lead and allowed two goals in the 77th and 79th to fall to CSUN on Sunday evening.
The Titans scored first at the 11:29 mark thanks to Kristen Swales. Her fourth goal of the season came off a corner kick by Callie Petrey-Juarez. Petrey-Juarez played the ball into the 18-yard box and after a deflection, Swales controlled the ball and put it into the back of the net.
The Matadors equalized at the 77:41 mark when Amy Aquino had a long throw-in into the 18-yard box that was bouncing around in the area until Marissa Favela pounced on it and just slipped it past the Titan defenders and goalkeeper Tianna Sanders to level the game at 1-1.
CSUN then took the lead at the 79:20 mark as Aquino connected on a cross from Alexis White. She struck the ball low to beat goalkeeper Allison Poole who subbed on after the first goal.
The Matadors had 14 shots to just five for the Titans while CSF won four corners to just one for CSUN.
Fullerton returns to the field on Thursday at UC Davis at 4 p.m. PT.
