SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer struck first on Friday night but ultimately fell 3-1 at San Diego as Milan Moses scored a hat trick to lead the Toreros to victory.
Fullerton (3-6-1) took an early 1-0 lead at the 20:17 mark of the first half. Callie Petrey-Juarez took a shot that the Torero goalkeeper got a hand on but still drilled the crossbar and went out for a corner kick. On the ensuing corner kick, Sarah Davidson's ball found the head of Haley Brown who sent it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season and second of her career.
USD tied the game at the 22:55 mark on a penalty kick by Moses and Moses then gave the Toreros the lead just before halftime at the 41:32 mark. Lauren Foehr played a through ball that sent Moses behind the Titan defense and she beat Tianna Sanders in a 1-on-1 situation to put the Toreros ahead. Moses completed the hat trick at the 68:36 mark and she was able to get behind the Titan defense once again, chase down a free ball and go low to beat Allison Poole and put USD up 3-1.
Sanders was the Titan goalkeeper in the first half and made three saves while Poole took over in the second half.
Brown continued to work in the attack for the Titans as she led the team with five total shots, including a shot that hit the post. The Titans out-shot the Toreros 16-13 and had eight shots on target to six for USD. Fullerton also won more corner kicks (nine to six) than San Diego.
Fullerton returns home for the first time in four matches on Sunday to host Denver at 1 p.m. PT at Titan Stadium.
