SEATTLE – Cal State Fullerton women's soccer fell to 1-2 on the year after losing 3-0 to the Washington Huskies on Friday evening at Husky Soccer Field.
Washington (1-1) took an early lead as it scored just 90 seconds into the match. The Huskies capitalized off a turnover in the back that led to an Olivia Van Der Jagt shot that found the back of the net.
The Huskies doubled the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to a powerful left-footed strike by Summer Yates. She used her chest to control the pass, it dropped down to her feet and she hit right into the top corner of the net.
In the 31st minute, the UW goalkeeper was outside the box trying to clear the ball and she deflected two consecutive shots by freshman Kristen Swales and senior Nano Oronoz. However, the second attempt was only cleared to freshman Kaya Hawkinson who had a strong shot but it was headed off the line by a Husky defender to deny a clear goal.
A miscommunication at the back led to a Husky goal by Sianna Siemonsma to put them up 3-0 in the 36th.
The Titans return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. PT at Seattle University.
