Batcheller Scores Late, Defense Holds in Draw With Northridge
FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton sophomore defender Morgan Batcheller headed home the equalizer in the 72nd minute and the Titans' defense held firm to forge a 1-1 draw with visiting Cal State Northridge in front of 535 fans on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.
Fullerton, now unbeaten in its last five consecutive matches (3-0-2), moved to 6-3-4 overall on the season and 1-0-1 in Big West Conference play. The Matadors were tied up for the first time in 2013, moving to 5-7-1 overall and 0-1-1 in league action with the draw.
"We learned a lot about our program again tonight," Head Coach Demian Brown said. "Cal State Northridge challenged us to change a couple things and I was impressed with how we responded. It was a great second half for us and a good way to end the first weekend in the Big West."
Batcheller's goal came in the 72nd minute off a corner by senior teammate Erica Mazeau, headed home the ball for her second score of the season to answer late. The Matadors had taken the lead midway through the first half off a goal by Kendall Moskal -- her first of the year -- off a throw in by Leandra Walker, turning her defender and driving a ball back across the box to the far right post for the 1-0 lead.
Mazeau's assist marked her fifth consecutive match with a point and her team-high fourth helper of the year.
Fullerton returns to the pitch with only one match next weekend, travelling to the Inland Empire to face UC Riverside on Sunday (Oct. 13) at 6 p.m.
