Cal State Fullerton assistant women's soccer coach Diego Bocanegra was named the Far West Region Assistant Coach of the Year as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Bocanegra completed his fourth season on the sidelines of Titan Stadium in 2012, helping Cal State Fullerton to a 10-9-1 overall record and a 7-2 mark in Big West Conference play for the Titans' sixth league regular season crown.
"Diego is very deserving of this honor," Head Coach Demian Brown said. "His tireless work and dedication to the success our program is incredible."
Bocanegra joins Olivet Nazarene's Joshua Macharia (Great Lakes Region), Creighton's Johnny Torres (Midwest Region), Virginia's (Ron Raab), Fairleigh Dickinson's Alex Passucci (North Atlantic Region), La Salle's Ally Kenney (Northeast Region), North Carolina's Bill Palladino (South Region), and Hofstra's Gary Book (South Atlantic Region) on the honor roll.
Bocanegra's honor adds to a banner year for the Fullerton coaching staff as Brown was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year for a second time while assistant Lauryn Pehanich was tabbed as the next head coach for the women's program at the University of La Verne.
