CARDIFF, Wales - Karen Bardsley and her Great Britain teammates remained unscored upon at the 2012 London Olympics as the former Titan helped lead her side to a second consecutive shutout, this time a 3-0 clean sheet against Cameroon on Saturday at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
Casey Stoney and Jill Scott scored five minutes apart in the first half for all the offense Great Britain would need while Stephanie Houghton, the heroine in her side's 1-0 win over New Zealand on July 25, added a goal with eight minutes to play to close out the scoring.
Bardsley had two saves in the opening 30 minutes of the half and turned away a free kick in the 57th minute to preserve the shutout. Great Britain outshot Cameroon, 16-10, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on frame, and had a decided advantage in possession.
With a spot in the quarterfinal round in hand, Great Britain will meet unbeaten and unscored upon Brazil in its final match in Group E play on Tuesday (July 31) at 11:45 a.m. PT at Wembley Stadium in London. Brazil defeated Cameroon, 5-0, in its opener and shut out New Zealand, 1-0, on Saturday.
The top two teams from each group, plus the top two third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage which begins on Aug. 3. The Group E winner will meet a third-place finisher from Group F or G at 11:30 a.m. PT while the Group E runner-up will meet the second-place team from Group F at 9 a.m. PT.
