FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton head women's gymnastics coach Jill Hicks announced the signing of four student-athletes to compete for the Titans beginning with the 2011 season.
"We have an outstanding recruiting class coming in for next season," said head coach Jill Hicks, who is entering her fifth season at the helm of the program. "Many of the freshmen will train the all around which should be a benefit to us in creating more depth. I especially look forward to having a great beam and floor team."
The group included a pair of Californians in Sara Carlson from Fountain Valley and Sasha Trofimova of Belmont. Katrina Hinken of Jacksonville, FL, and Larah Robertson of Sharon, Ontario, Canada, round out the class.
Carlson is an all-arounder for New Hope Gymnastics who placed first on bars and second in the all-around at the 2009 Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals. She also won vault, beam, and all-around titles at the Level 10 state competition in 2008, while also finishing second on bars.
Trofimova is a three-event specialist for Accel Gymnastics in Belmont who placed first on beam and third in the all-around at the 2008 Level 10 state competition. She also won beam at the 2007 Level 9 regionals and finished third on floor at the 2007 Level 9 Western regionals.
Hinken is an all-arounder who competed with TNT Gymnastics in Jacksonville who finished third on beam at the 2010 Level 10 state competition. Last year, she was also ninth in the all-around and seventh on floor at the Level 10 state meet before finishing ninth on bars, 11th on floor, and 12th in the all-around at the regional competition.
Robertson becomes the second Canadian on the Fullerton roster for 2011, joining countrywoman Megan Farris (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), who completed her freshman year with the Titans in 2010. Robertson was a Level 10 competitor for the Academy of Sport and Fitness, qualifying for nationals four times and serving as a member of Team Ontario for seven seasons.
