Rolling Titan Gymnasts Host "Beauty and the Beast" Meet on Friday Night

Feb. 1, 2007

FULLERTON, CA - The Cal State Fullerton women's gymnastics team closes out a three-meet homestand on Friday night (Feb. 2) at 7 p.m. as the Titans play host to Sacramento State in the second-annual "Beauty and the Beast" meet with the Fullerton wrestling team.

In a unique combination of athletic events the Titan gymnasts will battle the Hornets while the Fullerton wrestlers host Wyoming simultaneously on the floor at Titan Gym.

IN THE POLLS...
Sacramento State's season average of 191.670 has them No. 37 in the nation while Cal State Fullerton is close behind at No. 46 with a team average of 190.033... The Titans also rank No. 53 in the nation on vault (47.483), No. 46 on bars (47.450), No. 37 on beam (47.608), and No. 44 on floor (47.492).

A LOOK BACK: SOUTHERN UTAH, UC DAVIS, HAMLINE UNIVERSITY
The Cal State Fullerton women's gymnastics team set season high's on three of the four apparatus and scored a season-best 192.225 to help lift the Titans to victory in a quad-meet on Friday night in front of 350 fans at Titan Gym.

Southern Utah finished second on Friday night with a team score of 190.575, followed by UC Davis in third with a 189.675, and Hamline University in fourth place with a 181.375.

Cal State Fullerton, which led wire-to-wire, scored 48 points or better on vault (48.075), bars (48.400), and balance beam (48.175) to better its previous season-high marks. The Titans finished with a 47.575 on floor exercise to close out the competition.

Fullerton was led by senior Nicole Lim and freshman Kori Underhill, who finished 1-2 on floor exercise for the Titans with scores of 9.70 and 9.625, respectively.

A pair of Titans' freshman had solid nights for Fullerton as Shannon Kawada finished in a second-place tie on vault with a 9.75 and freshman Britni Echeverria finished in a tie for third on bars with a 9.75.

Not to be outdone, senior Brittany Evans finished in a three-way tie for third on beam with a 9.75.

Southern Utah's Leah Sakhitab won the individual all-around title with a 38.850 and was followed in second place by teammate Elise Wheeler, who scored a 38.200. UC Davis' Michelle Kulovitz was third in the all-around with a 37.975.

Sakhitab took home individual honors on bars (9.825) and beam (9.85) while the Aggies' Tanya Ho won individual vault honors with a 9.85.

TITANS REMAIN UNBEATEN AGAINST CONFERENCE FOES
Cal State Fullerton moved its record to 3-0 against Western Athletic Conference foes last week with its quad-meet victory over Southern Utah, UC Davis, and Hamline University as the Titans outscored the Thunderbirds, 192.225 to 190.575. Fullerton's quest for an unbeaten conference season, however, must endure two more meetings against conference foes this year: Friday night against Sacramento State and a March 2 meeting against San Jose State in the Bay Area. The Titans' five wins are also tied for first in the league with the Hornets, who are also 5-1 this season.

IT'S GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME
The Titans continued to progress as a team last weekend as they posted a season-high 192.225 in their second meet victory of the 2007 season. That score was almost two points better than Fullerton's 190.425 a week earlier against UCLA and San Jose State, and almost five points better than its 187.450 scored in its season-opening victory over Boise State.

SEASON-HIGH'S REACHED IN QUAD MEET WIN
Fullerton posted season high's on three of the four apparatus in last weekend's victory, setting new bests on vault (48.075), bars (48.400), and beam (48.175) while its 47.575 on floor was the second-highest score for the Titans' floor lineup in 2007.

SHARING THE WEALTH
Cal State Fullerton has been getting production from its entire lineup as 15 of the 19 athletes on the roster have seen action this season - including six of the 10 freshmen.

LIM WINS FIRST INDIVIDUAL TITLE
Senior Nicole Lim took home her first individual title of the season last week, scoring a 9.70 on floor exercise to finish first. It was only the second individual win of the season for a Titan gymnast after senior Brittany Evans won beam against Boise State with a 9.75 in the season-opener.
