LOGAN, UT - The Cal State Fullerton women's gymnastics team scored a season-high 190.700 and set a season-best on bars while senior Alaina Baker took home individual honors on vault to lead the Titans against Western Athletic Conference foe Utah State on Friday night in Logan, UT.
The host Aggies scored a 194.550 to outdistance Fullerton, scoring better than 48 points on all four events, including a high of 49.000 on bars. The Titans, who set a season high with a 47.500 on bars, topped 47 points on all four events for the first time this season, but fell to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in conference meets.
Baker gave Fullerton its third vault champion in the team's last four meets as the senior matched a season high with a 9.775 to edge out Utah State's Lyndsie Boone for the top spot. Senior Shelly Cooper finished fourth in the event with a 9.725 for the second-straight week and also posted a fourth-place finish on floor with a 9.75.
Both Baker and Cooper finished with season high's in the all-around, finishing third and fourth with a 38.850 and a 38.700, respectively.
Taylor Kearns set a career high with a 9.825 on bars to help the Titans to their season-high score, finishing in a four-way tie for second place, while Katie Renecker set a career high on beam with a 9.775 to capture second.
The Aggies led wire-to-wire, pushing a six-tenths lead to almost two points after just two rotations en route to the final score. Nicole Simoneau (9.85, bars), Cammi Muhr (9.80, beam), and Jackie Dillon (9.825, floor) each took home individual event titles while Dillon placed first in the all-around with a 39.150.
After a one-week absence, Cal State Fullerton returns to Titan Gym for its final two home meets of the season, hosting San Jose State on Friday (March 11) in its annual "Pink Meet" for breast cancer awareness at 7 p.m. before welcoming UCLA on Sunday (March 13) at 2 p.m.
