Streaking Titan Gymnasts Finish Strong, Defeat Sacramento State
Feb. 2, 2007 FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton posted a 1-2-3 finish on floor exercise and finished strong in its final two rotations as the Titans defeated Sacramento State in a Western Athletic Conference dual meet on Friday night as part of the second annual "Beauty and the Beast" meet at Titan Gym. The victory improved Fullerton to 6-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 against WAC opponents this season while the Titans won their third meet in four tries in 2007. Cal State Fullerton led wire-to-wire, but led by just half a point after the first two rotations. The Titans then hit on beam, led by senior Nicole Lim's 9.825, which was good for second place, as they outscored the Hornets, 48.025-47.425, after the third rotation. Lim then led the charge once again on floor, as she brought home individual honors with her 9.775 and was followed by teammates Kori Underhill (9.725) and Melissa Schafer, who finished in a tie for third with a 9.70. The Titans scored a season-high 48.350 in the final rotation. Individual all-around champion Marina Borisova of Sacramento State scored a 38.900 while also winning vault with a 9.625. The Hornets' Melissa Genovese took home individual honors on beam with a 9.875 while Fullerton freshman Britni Echeverria shared individual bars with Sacramento State's Borisova, scoring a 9.80. Cal State Fullerton returns to the floor on Feb. 9 as the Titans travel north to UC Davis for a 7 p.m. dual meet. NCAA WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS |
