FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior Alaina Baker took home titles on floor and the individual all-around while newcomer Jasmine Brown finished second on bars to pace the Titans' efforts in their 2011 women's gymnastics season opener against UC Davis on Friday night at Titan Gym.
Fullerton scored a 186.125 to finish behind the visiting Aggies, who led wire-to-wire, finishing with a 191.950. The Titans posted their best score of the night on beam with a 47.800, but had to count falls on both bars and floor exercise.
Baker finished with a 38.700 in the all-around and a 9.75 in the final rotation to claim the floor crown. She also finished second on vault with a 9.725 and just out of the medals with a 9.625 on bars to finish fourth.
Brown, a transfer from Minnesota, posted a 9.65 on bars to finish second, just .025 behind UC Davis' Marcy Miller in the top spot, and finished fourth on vault (9.60) in her Fullerton debut. Freshman Katie Renecker had a successful Titan debut, finishing in a tie for fourth on beam with a 9.675.
Anna Shumaker took home individual honors on vault (9.80) and beam (9.775) for the Aggies while Miller finished in second place in the individual all-around with a 38.400.
Cal State Fullerton returns to the gym on Friday, Feb. 4, as they travel to Boise State in a Western Athletic Conference clash at 7 p.m. MT.
