FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton freshman Alaina Baker finished first on floor while junior Jessica Tait finished second on beam to help propel the Titans to a season high 191.025 and a second-place finish in their 2008 women's gymnastics home opener on Sunday afternoon.
UCLA won the meet with a 196.125 and was followed by Fullerton, Brown University in third with a 183.025, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire in fourth with a 176.525.
Baker set a career-high's on all four apparatus, including her floor exercise-winning score of 9.90. She also finished tied for fourth on vault (9.725), tied for fifth on bars (9.70), and ninth on beam (9.65) to finish fourth overall in the individual all-around with a career-best 38.975.
Tait set a personal best with a 9.825 to finish in a tie for second on beam while sophomore Kori Underhill posted a top five finish, scoring a 9.80 on floor to finish fifth.
As a team, Fullerton also set season high's with a 47.775 on beam and a 48.875 on floor exercise to help the Titans to their highest score since a 193.625 at the Western Athletic Conference Championships last season.
UCLA posted a trio of 49-plus event scores on vault, bars, and beam while narrowly missing a fourth with a 48.950 on floor en route to the win. The Bruins swept the top three spots individually on vault and bars led by individual all-around winner Anna Li, who finished second on bars and beam while posting a third-place finish on vault and floor en route to her 39.350.
Brittani McCullough finished second in the all-around for UCLA with a 39.150, including an individual win on vault with a 9.90 along with teammate Tasha Schwikert, while Kristina Comforte finished third in the all-around for the Bruins with a 39.000, including a 9.90 on bars to win the event.
Cal State Fullerton returns home next Sunday afternoon (Jan. 27) at 2 p.m. as the Titans host Utah State in a Western Athletic Conference match-up at Titan Gym.
