Gymnastics Post Narrow Win Over Boise State in 2007 Season Opener
Jan. 13, 2007 RENO, NV - Cal State Fullerton senior Brittany Evans took home individual honors on beam and the Titans rallied from two points down to defeat Boise State in a Western Athletic Conference dual meet on Friday evening in Reno, Nev. Fullerton scored a 187.450 to the Broncos' 187.250 to give first-year Head Coach Jill Hicks her first career victory. The Titans trailed, 141.15 to 139.35 after the first three rotations before hitting on beam in the final round. Evans, who scored a 9.75 to win the event, was one of three Fullerton gymnasts in the top five as Cal State Fullerton scored a 48.10 as a team to Boise State's 46.10 on floor to overcome the deficit. Senior Nicole Lim and freshman Jessica Merriam finished tied for fifth on the apparatus with a 9.625 to help spearhead the Titans' efforts. Freshman Shannon Kawada did well in her first meet at the collegiate level,finishing third on bars with a 9.55 while junior Melissa Schafer finished second on floor with a 9.65. Cal State Fullerton returns to action this weekend as the Titans open the home portion of their schedule on Friday (Jan. 19) at 7 p.m. with Breast Cancer Awareness Night against UCLA and San Jose State at Titan Gym.
