Titans Pick Up One Spot, Finish Eighth in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Cal State Fullerton junior Tisha Alyn Abrea shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round to finish in a tie for eighth overall and the Titans' women's golf team picked up one spot in the standings to finish eighth at the season-opening 2013 Minnesota Invitational at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn., on Tuesday.

Fullerton shot a final-round 309 as a team to edge Big West Conference rival Long Beach State by a stroke for the spot, shooting a two-day total of 933 to finish at 69-over-par for the tournament. Kent State edged out day-one leader Illinois by a single stroke for the team title with a 38-over-par 902.

Abrea was 1-under through the first five holes of the day and stood at even par until a bogey on five. She rallied to birdie the par-four fifth, but fell behind in the final three holes with a double-bogey on the par-three eighth to finish at 2-over for the day and 11-over (227) for the tournament. It was Abrea's 10th career top-10 finish (which includes three career top-five finishes) and her second-straight after finishing in a tie for 10th at the 2013 Big West Championships to close out last season.

Freshman Martina Edberg shot her second-consecutive round of 76 to improve three spots and finish in a tie for 23rd at 16-over (232) in her Division I debut, while junior Makayla Mier finished with three birdies on the day to help her hold on to a share of 30th place at 21-over (237) for the tournament.

Junior Seri Lee finished in a tie for 42nd with a 25-over-par 241 while junior Kate Cho ended in a tie for 49th with a 29-over-par 245 to round out the Titans' line up.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sept. 30 as the Titans head north to Aurora, Ore., to compete in the Rose City Collegiate hosted by Portland State at the Langdon Farms Golf Club. It will be a welcome sight for Fullerton, which won the event in 2012, rallying from 15 shots down after day one to edge second-place Oregon State by four strokes and clinch the program's third tournament title since reinstatement in 2009-10.
