Titans Secure Commitment From JC Transfer

May 27, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - Sabrina Gonzalez, a 5-foot-10 guard from Palomar College, has returned a national letter of intent to continue her playing career at Cal State Fullerton, head women's basketball coach Dr. Maryalyce Jeremiah announced.

Gonzalez, who will have two years of eligibility remaining at the Division I level, becomes the fourth player to sign with the Titans for the 2008-09 campaign, joining incoming freshmen Nneamaka Anyanwu (Oakland, CA/Skyline HS), Megan Richardson (Manhattan Beach, CA/Mira Costa HS), and Destainee Rudison (Hesperia, CA/Silverado HS).

"We are so excited that Sabrina has chosen the Titans to complete her stellar career," Dr. Jeremiah said. "She is a terrific shooter, competitor, and student of the game. Her drive for excellence is one of the things that really attracted us to her and she fills in a big periemter 'hole' in our program since Charlee Underwood played.

"Her competitve attitude will take her far and her intelligence and knowledge of the game will be contagious. She should see considerable playing time right away."

Gonzalez is a two-time Pacific Coast Conference Player of the Year and two-time all-state selection for the Comets, ranking third in the league with 17.0 points per game as a freshman and bettering that mark with an 18.3 ppg average in her sophomore season to help Palomar to a 27-6 overall record and a 14-0 mark in PCC play to bring home the conference title in 2007-08.

A four-year varsity letter winner at Carlsbad HS, Gonzalez averaged 14.0 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game as a senior en route to All-Avocado League First-Team honors and North County All-Stars MVP laurels. She also led the team in assists (5.1 apg), steals (4.9 spg), and blocked shots (3.3 bpg).

As a junior, Gonzalez averaged 12.0 ppg and 4.3 rpg while helping the Lancers to a 26-5 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play. She was a second-team all-league selection and earned third-team all-county honors.
