TIP-OFF: Looking to build off only its second Big West Conference win of the season, the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team (9-11 overall, 2-6 in the Big West) welcomes the league's Northern California contingent to Titan Gym this week. The Titans open the second round of Big West play on Wednesday (Feb. 1) at 7 p.m. against UC Davis before Pacific comes to town on Saturday (Feb. 4) at 2 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader with the Fullerton men's team.

NEW LOOK BIG WEST: The Big West Conference Board of Directors announced on Dec. 12, 2011, that San Diego State will return as the conference's 11th member effective July 1, 2013. The Aztecs, whose women's teams were members of the league from 1985-90, were an original member of the Pacific Coast Athletic Association from 1969-78, and will join Hawaii as the league's "newest" members. The Warriors, whose women's programs were part of the Big West from 1984-96, were introduced as the 10th member of the league on Dec. 10, 2010, and will officially compete as a member of the Big West in July of 2012.

UC DAVIS BRIEFLY: The Aggies enter the weekend with a 13-7 overall record and a 5-3 mark in Big West Conference play to stand in a tie for second place with UC Irvine and Cal Poly... UC Davis split its contests on the coast last weekend, downing UC Santa Barbara by four points before falling at Cal Poly, 87-65... the Aggies, whose only loss in eight games at home this season is to the Titans back on Dec. 31, are just 5-5 away from home thus far this season... Samantha Meggison leads a very balanced scoring offense for UC Davis at 9.9 ppg while grabbing 4.8 rpg and shooting .381 from the floor... Hannah Stephens (9.5 ppg) leads the team in shooting at .444 overall and .403 from three-point range as well as swiping 41 steals.

PACIFIC BRIEFLY: The Tigers enter the weekend with an 11-9 mark overall and 4-4 in Big West Conference play for a fifth-place tie... Pacific split its two games last week on the road, falling by 10 at Cal Poly before edging UC Santa Barbara by four... the Tigers, who are 7-2 at home this season, are just 4-7 away from home, having lost five of their last seven... junior forward Kendall Rodriguez leads the offense, averaging 12.4 ppg and shooting .352 from the field while also pacing the team on the boards at 7.9 rpg... junior guards Ashley Wakefield (12.3 ppg, .503 FG%, 6.7 rpg) and Erica McKenzie (12.3 ppg, 3.2 apg) are also in double figures on the season.

SERIES NOTES: Cal State Fullerton leads the all-time series with UC Davis, 8-7, following its 58-50 victory in Northern California earlier this year... the two programs have split the last eight meetings... the Titans are 3-4 all-time against the Aggies at home, falling 73-58 in last season's meeting after posting a 68-57 win in 2010... Fullerton is 4-5 against UC Davis since the Aggies joined the Big West Conference in 2007-08... Pacific leads the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton, 34-23, but the Titans have won five of the last seven despite suffering a 72-67 loss in Stockton earlier this season... Fullerton is 14-12 against the Tigers at home, having won the last six-straight meetings dating back to 2006... Pacific's last win in Fullerton was back on Dec. 30, 2004, by the score of 61-55 - the last in a string of 15 consecutive wins by the Tigers over the Titans.

FINALLY!: After losing five-straight Big West Conference contests by a combined 23 points, Cal State Fullerton finally found its way over the proverbial hump, trouncing visiting Long Beach State by 21 points on Saturday afternoon for the team's second-largest margin of victory this season (27 points vs. Loyola Marymount on Nov. 21). The win, which snapped a three-game losing streak overall since a nine-point win at CSU Bakersfield on Jan. 14, improved the Titans to 2-6 in league play as Fullerton hadn't started this slowly in the Big West since the 2004-05 squad finished with the same record through its first eight games.

ROUND TWO: Cal State Fullerton has opened the second go-round of Big West Conference play with a victory in each of the last two years (each against Long Beach State) and four of the last six dating back to the 2005-06 season.

MISSING IT BY "THAT" MUCH: Of Fullerton's last 12 contests, 10 of those have been decided by single digits after the Titans had opened the season with eight-straight double-digit decisions and each of Fullerton's last six losses have been by fewer than seven points (29 points combined).

WAIT... WE HAVE TO PLAY MORE?: Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge battled to overtime on Jan. 25 at Titan Gym with the Matadors pulling out a six-point, 62-56, triumph. It was the first overtime contest for the Titans in almost two seasons since they defeated Seattle University, 82-76, on Jan. 27, 2010, and the second OT loss to Northridge in the history of the series between the two programs. Cal State Fullerton fell to 10-16 all-time in overtime with the loss (9-15 in single-overtime contests) and 7-8 in extra-time games at Titan Gym.

CRISPY: Since moving back into the starting lineup two weeks ago at UC Riverside, junior guard Alicya Crisp has been a welcome addition on both ends of the court for Head Coach Marcia Foster and the Titans. The Sacramento native has reached double figures in two of her last three contests, averaging 8.3 ppg in that span (compared to just 2.9 ppg coming in to the game against the Highlanders) and shooting 47 percent (8-for-17) from the field.

THREEEEE-CO-LA: The Titans were dialed in from long distance against Long Beach State, hitting 10-of-21 (.476) from beyond the arc to tie a season-high for three-pointers made set earlier this season against Loyola Marymount on Nov. 21. The 48 percent shooting night from three-point range was Fullerton's best since it hit 53 percent (8-of-15) against Cal Poly on Jan. 13 of last season. Five different Titans hit from long range against the 49ers, including multiple makes from Megan Richardson (3), Alicya Crisp (a career-high 3), and Mya Olivier (a career-high 2).

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO INSIDE, BUT YOU CAN'T SHOOT HERE: Cal State Fullerton ranks second in the league (by .000138) in three-point percentage defense entering this week's contests, holding its last three opponents to a combined total of nine three-pointers made and a combined 31 percent (9-for-29) from beyond the arc. The Titans have also allowed the second-fewest three-pointers made among Big West Conference teams this season (73) and have not allowed more than six makes from three-point range in a game this season.

IN A GIVING MOOD: Freshman Chante Miles led the Titans with four assists on Saturday against Long Beach State, just one of seven different Fullerton players to tally an assist on the night as the Titans finished with 18 helpers on 28 made shots in the win over the 49ers. The 18 assists were the most since Fullerton dished out 20 assists (on 30 makes) against San Jose State on Dec. 22.

I'M HERE TO HELP: Also among the group of helpers against Long Beach State was redshirt senior Lauren Chow, who tallied three assists on Saturday night to move her past Sheryl Jones (1985-89) and into fourth place on the school's all-time list with 383 career assists. Chow now sets her sights on third-place Shayla Bradshaw, needing 28 more helpers to pass Bradshaw's 410 assists from 1992-96.

#WINNING: Fullerton's 21-point win over Long Beach State on Saturday night gave the Titans nine wins on the year -- matching their entire total from all of last season when they finished 9-21 overall. With one more win, Fullerton would finish with double-digit victories for the second time in three seasons under Head Coach Marcia Foster and its sixth such season in the last seven years.

"300": A perfect score in bowling, and a milestone in scoring for Megan Richardson this season. On a three-pointer with 1:44 to play at UC Riverside on Jan. 21, Richardson scored her 301st point of the season, becoming only the fourth player in school history to reach 300 points in all four of her collegiate seasons as a Titan, joining Robin Holmes (1982-86), Shayla Bradshaw (1992-96), and Toni Thomas (2005-09). Looking ahead in our crystal ball, should Richardson score 59 more points this season, she would join Bradshaw and All-Americans Genia Miller (1987-91) and Nancy Ratliff (1980-83) as the only Fullerton players to reach 400 points in three-straight seasons.

ALL GO, NO QUIT: Senior Megan Richardson made her 100th consecutive start with the Titans' opening tip against Cal Poly on Jan. 5 and has started 106 consecutive games dating back to her freshman season. The Manhattan Beach native has not missed a start since coming off the bench on Dec. 4, 2008, against No. 16 Vanderbilt and has not missed a single one of the program's 110 possible contests overall dating to the 2008-09 campaign, starting a total of 105 of those games.

DOUBLE-DIGIT DOMINATION: You know the old saying, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes?" We'd like to add a third -- Megan Richardson and double-digit points. The Titans spectacular scoring guard has reached double digits in points in 82 of her 112 career games (73 percent), including 27 career 20-point contests and a 33-point effort against Cal Poly on Jan. 13, 2011. She is one of only three active Fullerton players with at least 10 career double-digit games (Lauren Chow and Mya Olivier) and is one of three active Titans who have reached 20 points in their collegiate careers (Chow and Olivier).

CHOW DIALS LONG DISTANCE FOR MILESTONE: With her two trey's against UC Riverside on Jan. 21, senior sharpshooter Lauren Chow moved into seventh on the Big West Conference's all-time list for three-pointers made, jumping past UNLV's Gwynn Hobbs, who hit 212 career three-pointers from 1991-95. Now, with 215 career three-pointers made, Chow needs just one more made three to pass UC Santa Barbara's Jess Hansen (1999-03) for sixth place and 10 more to jump past Pacific's Kelsey Lavender (2004-08) for the No. 5 spot. Earlier this season against Nevada on Dec. 10, Chow became only the eighth player in the history of the Big West Conference to reach 200 career three-pointers made.

CLEANING THE GLASS: Redshirt sophomore Mya Olivier and freshman Kathleen Iwuoha have been working hard down low for the Titans, averaging 8.4 and 7.2 rpg, respectively, over the team's last five contests, helping lift the duo into the top 15 in the Big West Conference entering the week. Olivier, who grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds at CSU Bakersfield, ranks fourth in the league at 8.0 rpg overall this season while Iwuoha, who set and tied her career best on the boards with 10 against Bakersfield and UC Riverside, ranks No. 11 this week at 5.5 rpg.

IN-N-OUT WOULD BE PROUD: Olivier's four double-doubles this season are the most for a Titan since Jasmine Scott had four (including a triple-double) during the 2009-10 senior season.

DE-FENSE (CLAP, CLAP)... DE-FENSE (CLAP, CLAP): Fullerton's defense has been up to the challenge thus far in 2011-12 after finishing at or near the bottom in numerous defensive categories a season ago. The Titans, who ranked 8th in scoring defense (71.7 ppg), 9th in field goal percentage defense (.432), and 8th in rebounding defense (41.8 rpg), last season while leading the league in three-point defense (.301), stand among the top four in the Big West entering the week in three of the four categories. Fullerton has allowed the third-fewest points per game (62.2 ppg), stands third in field goal percentage defense (.390), and is second in three-point defense (.287), while standing fifth in rebounding defense (39.2 rpg).
