MALIBU, CA - Pepperdine's Lauren Bell finished with a game-high 14 points to lead five Waves in double figures on Saturday afternoon, leading her side to an 80-52 victory over Cal State Fullerton at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
The loss dropped the Titans to 4-7 overall and 1-6 on the road this season as they suffered their fifth-straight defeat away from home. Pepperdine improved to 6-5 overall on the year.
Senior Jenna Breite finished with her second career double-double of 10 points and 10 boards, but was the only Titan in double figures as the Waves held leading scorers Lyndsey Grove and Megan Richardson to nine combined points on 4-for-17 shooting. Fullerton stuggled to find its stroke from the field, hitting on just 37.1 percent from the floor compared to the Waves' 52 percent shooting from the field.
Bell hit 5-of-10 from the field, including a quartet of three-pointers, and was joined in double figures by Jazmine Jackson (13) and a trio of players with 11 apiece.
The Waves led wire-to-wire, breaking open what was once a seven-point contest with a 9-0 run and turning that into into a 41-23 lead at the break. Pepperdine led by as many as 31 points with just over two minutes to play in regulation as the Titans never got closer than 16 points in the second half.
The battle of the boards was won by the Waves, 38-32, while the defense forced Fullerton into 17 turnovers on the afternoon, turning those into 29 points.
Cal State Fullerton returns to the court on Thursday (Dec. 23) with a single game at Gonzaga. Tip-off from Spokane, WA, is scheduled for noon.
