SAN DIEGO, CA - San Diego's Amber Sprague notched a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to help lead the host Toreros to a 47-36 home non-conference victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton on Saturday afternoon at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, Calif.
The loss snaps the Titans' two-game winning streak as they fall to 4-7 overall on the year. San Diego wins its second-straight in improving to 9-2 overall on the season.
Sophomore Toni Thomas, Fullerton's leading scorer at 18.8 points per game entering the game, was held to just two points on 1-of-9 shooting ending her 16-game double-digit scoring streak. She did grab nine rebounds on the afternoon, however.
Senior Charlee Underwood led the Titans' offense with a 13-point, nine-rebound effort, finishing the game as the only Fullerton player in double figures.
Aside from Sprague, USD had two other players in double figures as Sabine Loewe and Kelly Winther contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively. Amanda Rego added 11 points and six assists in the victory.
Cal State Fullerton trailed by only three points at the break, but San Diego broke things open early in the second half as the Toreros exploded for an 8-2 run in the first two and a half minutes of the period.
The Titans were plagued by poor shooting the entire game, hitting on just 25 percent from the floor and only 3-of-21 from three-point range (.143). USD shot 35 percent from the field and outrebounded Fullerton, 55-36, for the game.
Fullerton returns to the court on Monday night (Dec. 18) at 7 p.m. as the Titans host the University of San Francisco at Titan Gym.
