The loss was the fifth straight for the Titans, who fell to 3-5 overall with the loss -- four of those defeats coming away from Titan Gym -- despite a 27-10 advantage on the offense boards that translated into 18 second-chance points.
Sophomore Alex Thomas led the way with 13 points for Fullerton, which was held to just 23 percent shooting from the floor -- the fourth-straight contest that the Titans have been held to under 30 percent from the field. Sophomore Jasmine Grayson finished with a team-high eight rebounds to lead Fullerton on the glass.
Promise Amukamara came off the bench to add 12 points and supplement Bennett's fifth career double-double in the victory for ASU (7-1 overall), which shot 50 percent in the second half to pull away from Cal State Fullerton after the Titans had closed to within four points on two occasions in the first four minutes of the second half after the Sun Devils had led, 29-23, at the break.
An 8-0 ASU run over a three-minute span pushed its lead back up to 12 -- five of those points from Amukamara -- as the Sun Devils pushed their advantage to 40-28 with 12:27 remaining. Arizona State would eventually lead by as many as 18 points at 57-39 with just under five minutes to play.
Back-to-back jumpers by Megan Richardson, who finished with nine points, gave the Titans their last lead at 6-5 with three minutes gone in the first half before a 10-2 spurt by ASU pushed its lead to seven points at 15-8 four minutes later. That advantage would grow to as many as 11 points with five minutes to play before Fullerton closed with a flourish, scoring seven of the final nine points of the period to make it a two possession game at halftime.
Bennett added four blocks for ASU, which knocked down 12 for the game after Kimberly Brandon (3), Jada Blackwell (3), and Micaela Pickens (2) tallied multiple-block efforts. The Sun Devils also shook off 27 turnovers forced by the Fullerton defense.
Cal State Fullerton closes out its week on Saturday (Dec. 10) at 3 p.m. as the Titans host Nevada at Titan Gym before the start of final exams next week.
