Jan. 17, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - UC Davis' Jessica Campbell netted a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while leading three teammates in double figures as the visiting Aggies defeated Cal State Fullerton, 77-45, in a Big West Conference women's basketball match-up on Thursday night.

The loss is the Titans' third straight as they fell to 2-13 overall and 1-3 in Big West play. UC Davis won its third-straight contest in improving to 9-7 overall and 3-1 in league action.

Junior Toni Thomas scored a team-high 13 points in 23 minutes and was joined in double figures by freshman Ashley Richie, who finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

Fullerton, which trailed 45-30 at halftime, whittled the Aggies' lead down to just 12 points with 12 minutes to play in the game, but then went cold from the floor, missing its next 20 consecutive shots over a span of 11-plus minutes until sophomore Toya Fontenot scored with 21 seconds remaining.

Davis outscored the Titans, 22-0, in that stretch until Fontenot's basket as the Titans, who shot 41 percent from the floor in the first half, hit just 7-of-34 (.206) from the field in the second period.

Fullerton came out firing to open the game, building a 10-5 advantage helped by a pair of three-pointers by Thomas and Lauren Chow, but the Aggies responded with a 7-0 run to take a 12-10 advantage with 16:03 to play.

After another three-pointer by Chow regained the lead for the Titans, UC Davis erupted for another 16-5 run to take a 10-point advantage at 28-18 with just over 10 minutes to go. The Aggies led by as many as 16 points in the opening half en route to the 15-point halftime advantage.

Paige Mintun (12 points), Haylee Donaghe (11 points), and Monica Mertle (10 points) all finished in double figures for UC Davis, which shot 51 percent from the field for the game, including a 60 percent clip in the first half.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday evening at 5 p.m. as the Titans take on Pacific at Titan Gym.
