IRVINE, Calif. - The women's basketball game at UC Irvine on Feb. 9 has been picked up for an ESPN3 broadcast. The Big West Conference announced the news on Wednesday.
This is scheduled to be the only regular-season conference game that the Titans will be on a national broadcast after having an ESPN+ game at Saint Peter's in December.
The Titans have surprised everyone as they currently sit in third place in the Big West standings with a 2-1 record (10-6 overall) after being voted to finish last in the both pre-season polls. Currently, they rank second in field goal percentage at 43.7% and have the third-highest scoring offense averaging just over 67 points per game. Fullerton is also in the midst of a historic season reaching 10 wins for the first time since 2014-15 and it's the fastest they've reached the mark since the 1990-91 season. This year's Titans are on pace to become the first team to finish above .500 since that 1990-91 squad.
On the other side, UC Irvine is also in the midst of a historic season. Starting the season 7-0, the Anteaters were off to their best start and finished their non-conference schedule 10-2, best in program history. Since conference play started, they've regressed a bit going 1-2 through their first three games, but still find themselves ranked number 20 in the College Insider Mid-Major poll.
Tip-off between the two teams at the Bren Events Center has been moved to 3:00 p.m. PT and will be featured on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
