FULLERTON, Calif.--- The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team officially got its season going Monday, as new head coach Daron Park led his first organized practice of the 2013-14 season.
"To me this was Christmas morning," said Park. "I mean this is the day I've been looking forward to since the very first day I was hired and I know the day they've had circled on their calendars since the season ended a year ago."
"It was great to have those summer work outs, but nothing can replicate practice, so to be able to come out today in full gear in this type of setting and really get after it and compete just brought a smile to my face."
While the Titans begin the new year with different faces on the sideline, the faces on the court will be familiar, as Fullerton brings back 12 letterwinners and five starters from a 2012 squad that advanced all the way to the Big West Tournament semifinals a year ago.
"I feel like we're a little further ahead of the game at this stage in the season especially since this is my first time coaching them," said Park.
"But really, what does that really mean? It's all about how we are when Nov. 8 rolls around and it becomes real. With that being said, I'm proud of them and I love them. This is a great group and today was a big first step and I'm looking forward to taking step number two tomorrow."
With day one in the books, the countdown to opening tipoff officially begins, as the Titans ready for their exhibition opener on Oct. 23 vs. Cal Baptist at 7:00 pm in Titan Gym.
The Titans will open the regular season on Nov. 8 at home vs. South Dakota also at 7:00 p.m.
