CSF Wins 3 Open Titles

Prescott, Ariz. - Andre Gonzalez, Matt Lopez and Todd Noel captured championships Saturday at the Embry Riddle Open Wrestling Tournament in Prescott, Arizona. Competing as the Titan Wrestling Club, the Fullerton contingent also had a pair of runnersup and three third-place finishes. Both Gonzalez at 125 pounds and Lopez at 141 faced teammates in the finals. Gonzalez won by forfeit from Marcus Orona after pinning John Garza of Embry-Riddle in the semifinals. Orona pinned Eric Cordova of Grand Canyon in his semifinal bout. Lopez was matched up against Mario DeCaro and took the forfeit win. Lopez won a 9-6 decision over Mitch Newcomer of Embry Riddle in the semis while DeCaro scored a 12-8 win over Ryan Luu of ER. Noel used a 13-11 decision in the finals over Eli Arismendez of Embry Riddle to capture the title at 174 pounds. Coming out of the consolation brackets to take third place were Jonah Cruz at 149, Mark Savalle at 184 and John Hayes at heavyweight. Fullerton opens the official season Saturday with a 1 p.m. Pac-10 match against Cal Poly. |
