Cal State Fullerton junior Morgan Atkinson from Temecula won the Pac-10 championship at 149 pounds Sunday night at Cal State Bakersfield with an 8-4 victory over Derek Kipperberg of Oregon State and he will lead a quartet of Titans to the NCAA Championships in Detoit beginning on March 15.

Heavyweight Wade Sauer placed third with a 6-0 victory over Colton Nichols of CSUB to clinch a berth and teammates T. J. Dillashaw (133) and Bryan Tice (165) were awarded "wild card" berths by the coaches after finishing fourth in their respective weight classes. Dillashaw lost the third-place bout to Omar Gaitan of UC Davis, 5-1, while Tice lost to Daniel Atondo of CSUB, 7-5.

Fullerton placed seventh in the team standings with 69.5 points. Oregon State won the team championship with 110 points ahead of the host Roadrunners with 105.

To gain the Sunday night consolation finals, Dillashaw defeated Thomas Kimbrell of Cal State Bakersfield, 6-0; Tice beat Brian Perry of Stanford, 5-4; and Sauer advanced with an 8-0 win over No. 2-seeded Andy Patrick of Boise State. Two other Titans were eliminated in the afternoon. Teddy Astorga placed fifth at 141 pounds after losing to Dave Roberts of Cal Poly, 17-15, and defeating Robert Galvan of Arizona State, 11-2. John Drake lost to Travis Gardner of Oregon State, 1-0, and Eliot Kelly of UC Davis to place sixth at 197 pounds.
