Six Titans Still Alive at Pac-10 Championships

Bakersfield, Calif. - Six Cal State Fullerton wrestlers are still alive including No. 1-seeded Morgan Atkinson in the championship bracket at 149 pounds after the first day of the Pac-10 Wrestling Championships at Cal State Bakersfield.

Atkinson will face No. 3-seeded Derek Kippenberg of Oregon State in the championship bout on Sunday night. Atkinson beat Jeremy McLaughlin of Oregon, 12-1, and won by injury default over Cam Jones of Boise State. Still alive in the consolation brackets are T. J. Dillashaw at 133 pounds, Teddy Astorga at 141, Bryan Tice at 165, John Drake at 197 and Wade Sauer at heavyweight.

Dillashaw scored a major decision over Joey Lucas of Cal Poly, 12-1, before losing to Darrell Vasquez of Cal Poly, 13-5.

Astorga pinned Greg Emerson of Portland State in 2:07 and then beat Kyle Larson of Oregon State, 4-2, before losing to No. 2-seeded Justin Pearch of Oregon, 11-6.

Bryan Tice beat Dale Seley of Portland State, 3-2; was pinned by Johnny Nunez of Boise State in 6:07, and then beat Brett Arand of Oregon State, 10-8.

After losing to Arizona State's No. 3-seeded Jason Trulson, Drake came back to beat Chris Robertson of Oregon, 5-3, and Jared Boyer of Stanford, 3-2.

Sauer also lost his first bout, 11-8 to Colton Nichols of Cal State Bakersfield, but came back to beat Broc Maffia of UC Davis, 11-3.

Paul Tice at 157 pinned Steve Dailey of Portland State in between losses to No. 2-seeded Josh Zupancic of Stanford (9-1) and Danie Alejandro of Cal State Bakersfield. Jaime Hernandez at 125, Ryan Budd at 174 and Bobby Musser at 184 each went 0-2 and out.
