Titans Suffer Third Narrow Loss in a Row

Boise, ID - Courtesy Boise State sports information...

Trailing by one point with three matches remaining, Boise State University picked up two straight wins from Andy Patrick and Cory Fish to put the Broncos in the lead for good in a 17-15 victory over Cal State Fullerton in Pac-10 Conference action Friday night.

Each team won five bouts by decision but the Broncos picked up two decisive bonus points with major decisions at 157 and 174 pounds.

It was the third loss in a row for the Titans in which one bout made the difference. The Titans are now 4-7 overall and complete the Pac-10 dual meet season at 2-6.

Patrick, listed seventh in this week's national USA Today/Intermat rankings at heavyweight, posted a 3-2 win over Wade Sauer before Fish recorded a 9-2 decision over Jaime Hernandez in the 125-pound weight class for a 17-12 Bronco lead.

Fullerton's T.J. Dillashaw handed Boise State's Levi Jones a 6-1 defeat in the final match of the night at 133 pounds to make the final margin of victory for the Broncos two points.

Boise State lost three of the first four matches to begin the league dual with 15th ranked Tyler Sherfey picking up the only win at 157-pounds, 14-1.

The Broncos' other two wins came in the 174 and 184 pound weight classes. In a high scoring match at 174 pounds, Nate Lee posted a 23-10 win over Ryan Budd before Luke Smith recorded a 10-3 win over Scott Judd at 184 pounds. Smith normally wrestles at the 165 pound weight class, but moved up two weights tonight due to an injury in the Bronco lineup.
