Ian (EE-uhn) Murphy has worked his way back into the Titan program after an academic problem brought a promising 2006-07 season to a sudden and premature close... begins this season ranked No. 1 in the Pac-10 at 184 pounds... had the best winning percentage on the squad last year at 20-4 and his 10 pins were almost double any teammate despite the shortened schedule... was 8-1 in duals and 5-1 in Pac-10 duals... was ranked No. 1 in the Pac-10 when sidelined... won the championship of the Tournament of Champions in Reno... for his effort he was selected the national wrestler of the week (Dec. 19-25) by TheMat.com... in April in Akron, Ohio, he won the 185-pound national championship in freestyle and was third in Greco at the University Greco and Freestyle Wrestling Championships... sat out of school for the 2004-05 academic year but came back to go 11-7 at 174 pounds in 2005-06 including 9-4 in dual meets and 1-1 at 184... in 2003-04 he was 10-11 with 2 pins and 5 bonus points at 184 and placed sixth at the Pac-10 Championships... was 5-1 in Pac-10 duals... also went 1-2 at 174... four-year letterman at Santiago High School in Corona... as a senior for Coach Brian O'Hara he compiled a 50-9 record... was league champion... placed third in CIF and masters and fifth in the state tournament ... went 3-2 at the national tournament... was team most valuable wrestler... graduated with honors... as a junior was 37-12 and won a league title... born on June 14, 1985, in Fullerton... parents are Micheal and Teresa Murphy... has two sisters -- Sarah (20) and Jessica (19)... business finance major... goal is to become a national champion and the outstanding wrestler of the Pac-10 Conference... enjoys golf, wake boarding and water skiing.
