Stingy Bradley Defense Next Titan Challenge
Sept. 22, 2008
Peoria, IL - A struggling Cal State Fullerton offensive attack will run into a defensive-minded side Saturday night when the Titans visit the Bradley Braves in the Titans' only action of the week. Fullerton has managed only one goal in losing its last three contests and only seven in a 2-6-0 campaign. The Braves, who are hosting a California team for only the second time (they beat UC Irvine in 2005), have allowed only four goals while matching their 4-2-1 start of last season, when they advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Bradley won the Memphis Tournament to open this season but then went winless in three matches, losing a pair of 1-0 matches to Western Illinois and Valparaiso around a scoreless tie with Northern Illinois. Since then the Braves have beaten North Florida and Xavier, the latter coming on the road by a 2-1 count on a goal by Chris Cutshaw with 17 seconds to play. Goalkeeper Drew Van Kampen has played all 654 minutes of the season with a 0.55 goals against average and 3 shutouts to go with 21 saves. Cutshaw leads the team with 4 goals. Fullerton's top scorer is sophomore Celso Alvarez with 3 goals for 6 points. Shay Spitz has a goal and an assist for 3 points. In the nets, senior Kevin Puder and freshman Trevor Whiddon have split duty almost evenly. Each is 1-3-0 in four starts. Puder has allowed 5 goals (1.25 GAA) while Whiddon has given up 8 (1.97 GAA) in 6:10 more playing time. Each has a shutout victory. |
